"Religion is for those who are afraid of going to hell-- spirituality is for those who have already been there."

Religion was the Spanish Inquisition. Religion is the conflict in the Middle East. On the other hand, spirituality has been demonstrated by people like Mother Theresa, Martin Luther King and Gandhi.

Bonnie Raitt, is credited with saying the words in the title of this post (she once sang, "Let's give them something to talk about. How about love?"). Now, that's the true nature of spirituality. Love.

Ancient scriptures tell us that God is a spirit and that God is love-- so when you are in alignment with love you are in Spirit.

Religion is for people who want to look good on the outside, while remaining unchanged on the inside. Sitting on a pew in a church doesn't make you spiritual-- any more than sitting in a garage makes you a car

Spirituality is for people who want to experience the elation of transformation and fulfillment. Knowing. Being. Self actualization. God actualization.

"If you believe in the "S," you'll be relieving your stress." -Snoop Dogg

When you believe in the power of Spirit (the power of the divine within you)-- you'll let go of your need to try to control every aspect of your life. You'll trust yourself enough to surrender to the flow of your intentions unfolding and your prayers being answered in a perfectly miraculous way!

"Where the Spirit of God is-- there is liberty." -Ancient Scripture

Spirituality is about freedom. Freedom to live and love. One of the greatest needs of human beings is freedom. This freedom isn't about existing as a selfish, hedonistic being-- or the freedom to harm others. 'Cause if you're following the greatest spiritual principle (e.g. "Love God with all your soul and love your neighbor as yourself" or "The Golden Rule"), you won't want to intentionally cause suffering for a fellow human being.

"Religion destroys, but the Spirit gives life." -St. Paul the Apostle
