What Napoleon Hill would say to Occupy Wall Street protesters

Trending right now on Yahoo is the term "The 99 Percent," which refers to a group of people who want to close the gap between the rich and the poor.

I've been thinking about how this movement jives with the teachings of the Law of Attraction-- which says that we have the ability to co-create our life experiences based on how we choose to focus our thoughts and emotions. This is what Napoleon Hill (one of the earliest teachers of Law of Attraction principles) would say to the Occupy Wall Street protesters:

"Business is due for a reform, make no mistake about this! The methods of the past, based upon economic combinations of Force and Fear will be supplanted by the better principles of Faith and cooperation. Men who labor will receive more than daily wages; they will receive dividends from the business, the same as those who supply the capital for business; but they must GIVE MORE TO THEIR EMPLOYERS, and stop bickering and bargaining by force, at the expense of the public. They must earn the right to dividends!" (From Think and Grow Rich)

This was written back in the late 1930's and as you can see, even then there were concerns about workers receiving their 'fair' share of the wealth created by corporations.

In his work, The Science of Getting Rich (1910), Wallace D. Wattles had this to say about corporate and political malfeasance:

“There is not the least doubt that he [God] will do away with plutocrats, trust magnates, captains of industry, and politicians as soon as they can be spared, but in the meantime, they are all very necessary. Remember that they are all helping to arrange the lines of transmission along which your riches will come to you, and be grateful. This will bring you into harmonious relations with the good in everything, and the good in everything will move toward you.”

Both of these men (Hill and Wattles), taught that each of us are THE CAPTAINS OF OUR SOUL and the masters of the results we get in life.

And the Law of Attraction teaches that what you focus on expands. So if you’re focused on the ‘problem’ of the misdistribution of wealth—it’s only going to get worse. However, if you focus on wealth creation, you’ll get that! The rich get richer and the poor get poorer because of their focus.

I don’t write this post to minimize the issues at hand (job cuts, foreclosures, health care etc.). I know about poverty. I was living on the streets! Poverty is a very real concern for millions of people—not only in the U.S., but around the world.

There’s an ancient scripture that says, “The destruction of the poor, is their poverty.” Yet there is another that says, “Beloved, I wish above all things that you prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers.”

The Universe is abundant. There’s more than enough money and wealth for everyone. When we tap into our inner wisdom and focus on the prospering of our souls, we will discover how to create and deliver value—using the gifts, talents, skills and expertise that each of us has been given. We need to partner with Source Energy (Spirit, God, Infinite Intelligence, the Divine-- whatever you choose to call it) and create our own opportunities and economies.
